Hi, I'm Kate, I lead TORSO and am responsible for inviting players to play in the string section.

Together with Marion, the conductor, we watch and help the orchestra grow with continuing amazement and pride!

Kate plays the Violin

Hear Kate's Soundclip:

I play the Violin because it makes me happy and it's very refreshing to play romantic music the way it should be done.

I play in TORSO because it's my baby!

Leading the orchestra is hard work but very rewarding! It brings great satisfaction and a real sense of community within an orchestra that plays together regularly.

I also play in a string quartet called  the 'Blue Cube Quartet'   Because a quartet only has four players we are much easier to move around than a whole orchestra.  We play in all kinds of places in and around London.  See us at Turnmills among other places!

Kate O'Connor is the Leader of the Orchestra, the Principal Violin player.  She sits at the front of the First Violin section.

She helps the First Violins and the whole orchestra to play exactly together

Before rehearsals begin the Leader works out how the string players will move their bows and writes this on the music, so they all move in the same direction.
